Does Icedrive support WebDAV?

WebDAV (Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning) was previously supported at Icedrive. However, due to ongoing reliability, security, and compatibility issues, it is now being phased out.

⚠️ Important update (15 April 2026):
WebDAV has been disabled for all new users as of this date and is being gradually sunset for existing users.

Why is WebDAV being removed?

WebDAV is an outdated and poorly supported protocol that has consistently caused problems for users, including:

• Unreliable connections and frequent disconnects
• Slow performance and timeouts
• File locking and sync issues
• Inconsistent behaviour across operating systems (especially Windows Explorer)

In many cases, these issues are outside of our control, as they stem from how operating systems and third-party clients implement WebDAV.

Unfortunately, WebDAV has been a major source of user frustration and negative experiences, despite our efforts to support it.

What should I use instead?

We strongly recommend using our native Icedrive apps, which are designed to provide:

• Faster and more stable performance
• Reliable file syncing and transfers
• Full compatibility across supported platforms
• Ongoing updates and improvements

These apps offer a significantly better and more consistent experience compared to WebDAV.

What happens next?

• New users can no longer access WebDAV
• Existing users will retain access temporarily
• The feature will be fully retired in a future update

We will provide advance notice before complete removal.
